Leg Ulceration and Vascular Disease

In addition to treating vein and hernia conditions, I also specialise in the management of complex vascular diseases, such as leg ulceration and circulatory problems affecting the carotid arteries and limbs.

Leg ulcers occur when the skin on the leg breaks down, often due to poor circulation, and this can lead to painful, open sores that can severely impact quality of life if left untreated.

Leg Ulceration

Leg ulcers are typically a result of venous insufficiency (poor blood flow in the veins) or arterial disease (restricted blood flow due to narrowed arteries). Without proper treatment, they can become chronic and debilitating. My approach to leg ulcer care includes a thorough investigation to identify the underlying cause, which could involve the use of ultrasound scans or other diagnostic tools to assess the vascular health of the affected limb. Treatment plans may include compression therapy, vein surgery, or addressing any arterial blockages to promote healing and prevent recurrence.

Vascular Disease and Circulation Issues

In addition to leg ulcers, I treat patients with other vascular conditions like carotid artery disease, which can lead to strokes, and claudication, a condition causing leg pain due to reduced blood flow. Early diagnosis and management of these conditions are essential to prevent further complications.

My practice also provides specialised care for patients with diabetic foot disease, a condition where poor circulation and nerve damage caused by diabetes can lead to serious foot problems, including ulcers and infections. Managing these circulatory issues is key to improving patient outcomes and preventing more severe complications, such as amputation.
