Vein Treatments
Varicose veins and thread veins are common issues that I frequently treat in my practice. Varicose veins are enlarged, visible veins that can cause discomfort like aching, itching, and swelling.
In some cases, they may lead to more serious problems like phlebitis (vein inflammation), bleeding, or even leg ulceration. Thread veins, while smaller and more superficial, can also affect the appearance of your legs.
Not all varicose veins need treatment, but for those that cause discomfort or are cosmetically concerning, I offer several treatment options. During our consultation, we’ll discuss which treatment is best for your specific condition, and I’ll make sure you fully understand the benefits and risks of each approach.
Compression Hosiery
Compression stockings are a non-invasive option that can help relieve symptoms such as swelling and discomfort. While they don’t eliminate the veins themselves, they are a useful management tool for milder cases or as a complement to other treatments.
Sclerotherapy (Foam and Liquid)
Sclerotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for both varicose and thread veins. In this procedure, I inject a special foam or liquid solution into the affected veins, causing them to collapse and eventually fade. It’s particularly effective for smaller veins or those causing leg ulceration. However, there are some risks involved, and we will go over these in detail during your consultation.
VNUS ClosureFast (RadioFrequency Ablation)
VNUS ClosureFast is a minimally invasive technique that I often recommend for larger varicose veins. A small catheter is inserted into the vein, and heat is applied to seal it shut, redirecting blood flow to healthier veins. This procedure offers a quicker recovery and less discomfort compared to more traditional methods, and most patients can return to normal activities within a few days.
Conventional Vein Surgery
In some cases, surgery may be the best option to remove larger or more problematic veins. This procedure, sometimes called “vein stripping” or “phlebectomy,” involves physically removing the veins. It’s a more invasive treatment but can provide effective, long-term relief in more severe cases.
Leg Ulceration
Leg ulcers can be a serious consequence of untreated varicose veins or circulation problems. They occur when the skin breaks down and doesn’t heal, leading to painful and debilitating sores. Treatment requires a thorough assessment, which may include bandaging, compression therapy, or vein surgery, depending on the underlying cause.
Each patient is different, and I am committed to ensuring that you receive a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. Whether you're seeking relief from discomfort or are concerned about the cosmetic appearance of your veins, my goal is to help you feel more comfortable and confident.
